Bruins send Frederic to Oilers in 3-way swap with Devils
The Boston Bruins are sending forward Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-way deal with the New Jersey Devils, the teams announced Tuesday.
The teams technically combined for three separate two-way trades, but this is how it ultimately looks for all three clubs:
Oilers receive | Bruins receive | Devils receive |
---|---|---|
F Trent Frederic | D Max Wanner | F Shane Lachance |
F Max Jones | 2nd-round pick (2025) | |
F Petr Hauser | 4th-round pick (2026) |
The Bruins retained 50% of Frederic's $2.3-million cap hit by trading him to the Devils, and then New Jersey retained 50% of that upon sending him to Edmonton. That leaves the Oilers on the hook for 25% of the original amount, or $575,000.
Frederic is a pending unrestricted free agent. The 27-year-old collected eight goals and seven assists over 57 games with the Bruins this season. He was in his seventh campaign with Boston, the team that drafted him 29th overall in 2016.
Jones, who's also 27 years old, primarily played for the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence in 2024-25. He notched 13 tallies and eight helpers over 38 contests while being held off the scoresheet in seven games with Boston.
The Bruins signed Jones as a free agent last July after he spent his first six seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, who selected him 24th overall in 2016.
Hauser was a fifth-round pick of the Devils in 2022, but the 21-year-old has been playing in his native Czechia.
The Oilers drafted Wanner 212th overall in 2021. The blue-liner, who turns 22 on March 12, was in his second season with Edmonton's AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. He produced one goal and one assist across 22 games in 2024-25.
Lachance is the son of former NHLer Scott Lachance. Shane has 10 goals and 15 assists in 32 contests with Boston University this season. The Oilers chose him 186th overall in 2021.
