Blue Jackets sign Olivier to 6-year extension
The Columbus Blue Jackets inked forward Mathieu Olivier to a six-year contract extension at an average annual value of $3 million, the club announced Wednesday.
Olivier's new deal includes a 10-team no-trade clause, reports TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
The 28-year-old was a pending unrestricted free agent whose current cap hit is $1.1 million, per PuckPedia.
Damon Severson is the only other Blue Jackets player signed through 2030-31.
Olivier has established career highs with 12 goals, 21 points, 232 hits (the second-highest total in the league), and 14:26 of average ice time over 61 games this season.
He's in his third campaign with the Blue Jackets, who acquired him in a trade with the Nashville Predators in June 2022. The Predators signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and he made his NHL debut the following year.
Olivier is the first Mississippi-born player in NHL history and the first player born in the Gulf Coast region to play for Nashville. He was born in Biloxi while his father, Simon, played for the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves.
