Devils' Keefe fined $25K for unprofessional conduct toward refs
New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe was fined $25,000 for unprofessional conduct directed at the officials during Sunday's loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, the NHL announced Wednesday.
The referees handed Keefe a game misconduct and the Devils a bench minor with 1:48 left in the third period of Vegas' 2-0 win.
Keefe became upset after Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel wasn't penalized for a collision with Devils star Jack Hughes, who left the game with an injury. He did not return and the extent of his injury is still unclear.
This isn't the first time Keefe has been fined for his actions in a contest against Vegas. As bench boss of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he was docked the same amount after being ejected during a loss to the Golden Knights in late February 2024.
Keefe is in his first season as head coach of the Devils after spending five with Toronto. He's guided New Jersey to a 33-24-6 record, third best in the Metropolitan Division.
