Maple Leafs place Reaves on waivers

The Toronto Maple Leafs moved Ryan Reaves to the waiver wire Thursday, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.

The Leafs will free up $1.125 million of his $1.35-million cap hit if he clears waivers Friday and they send him down to the AHL, per Johnston. If a team claims him, Toronto will be absolved of his entire contract.

Reaves is on the books through 2025-26, after which he would become an unrestricted free agent. The 38-year-old has been a healthy scratch on numerous occasions this campaign. He has two points (both assists) and 103 hits while averaging 7:48 of ice time in 35 games.

The grinder is in his second season with Toronto. He signed a three-year deal with the club in July 2023.

Reaves has also played for the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Vegas Golden Knights, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues in his 15-year career. He's suited up for 912 regular-season games and 113 playoff contests.
