Oilers acquire Walman from Sharks
The Edmonton Oilers are acquiring defenseman Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional first-round pick in 2026 and forward Carl Berglund, the Oilers announced.
Walman's under contract through 2026 at a $3.4-million cap hit. He signed the deal as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, who traded him - along with a second-round pick - to the Sharks last offseason for future considerations.
The 29-year-old took on a big role on the Sharks' defensive corps, setting career highs this season in points (32) and average ice time (23:11). He also quarterbacked San Jose's top power-play unit.
Evan Bouchard runs point on Edmonton's man advantage, but Walman's versatility should boost an Oilers blue line that's currently without Mattias Ekholm and John Klingberg due to short-term injuries.
The Oilers acquired forwards Trent Frederic and Max Jones from the Boston Bruins earlier this week to address their forward depth.
The Sharks also recouped a first-round pick from the Dallas Stars by trading Mikael Granlund last month.
