Oilers punch playoff ticket with win over Sharks
The Edmonton Oilers secured their place in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night.
This marks Edmonton's sixth consecutive postseason berth dating back to its bubble qualifying round loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2020.
The Oilers are likely to take on the Los Angeles Kings in the first round for the fourth consecutive year. They've won the previous three meetings and sit two points behind the Kings with three contests to go to determine which team will have home ice.
Edmonton reached Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last season and has won six series during this playoff streak.
Injuries are a concern for the Oilers as they gear up for the playoffs. The club just got Connor McDavid back, while superstar forward Leon Draisaitl is still sidelined along with several regulars. Mattias Ekholm and Zach Hyman left Friday's contest with undisclosed ailments.
Edmonton returns to action Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.
