The Ottawa Senators signed forward Fabian Zetterlund to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4.275 million, the team announced Thursday.

The Senators acquired Zetterlund from the San Jose Sharks ahead of March's trade deadline. He was a restricted free agent, and his new deal will make him unrestricted when it expires in 2028.

Zetterlund notched 17 goals and 36 points in 64 games with the Sharks this past season, but only two goals and three assists came in the 20 contests after the trade. He didn't find the scoresheet in Ottawa's first-round series loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 25-year-old was a third-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2017. He was dealt to the Sharks in 2023 as part of the Timo Meier blockbuster. All in all, Zetterlund has notched 116 points in 247 career games.

The Senators have approximately $10.7 million in remaining cap space after signing Zetterlund, according to PuckPedia. Recent reports suggested Ottawa is making progress on retaining veteran UFA Claude Giroux.
