Blackhawks' Shaw: Hazing not a problem in hockey
The Chicago Blackhawks are a team with no shortage of veterans, nor young players, but evidently, there is no divide on a team that has won two championships in the last four seasons.
The younger Blackhawks were asked this week about the Miami Dolphins hazing scandal, and they explained that it's not an issue in their sport.
‘‘Things have changed from the olden days,’’ third-year forward Andrew Shaw said. ‘‘Being a young guy coming into the league, you get some level of respect and dignity. I think it’s been pretty good in the sport of hockey, and what goes on in other sports, you don’t really hear about [in hockey]. I have no complaints.’’
Shaw further mentioned that the extent of their initiation is unpacking the veterans' bags, hanging jerseys, and the odd prank.
‘‘That stuff’s fun,’’ Shaw said. ‘‘You only get to be a rookie once. You've got to take that in, and enjoy that kind of stuff.’’
So, yeah, no voicemails.
