GIF: Flyers D Schenn hits Red Wings F Abdelkader from behind

During the second period of Wednesday night's game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers, Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader received a pass in the neutral zone and attempted to turn and dump the puck into Philadelphia's end. 

But instead Abdelkader was hit from behind on the sequence by Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn. Abdelkader fell awkwardly, head first into the boards in front of the Red Wings bench:

Obviously this is a bad hit and Schenn was assessed a minor for charging on the play. Though Luke Schenn has never faced supplementary discipline by the NHL's department of player safety, expect this sequence to be reviewed on Thursday...

Following the hit Abdelkader was helped off of the ice by Red Wings training staff.
