Report: Leafs, Red Wings ban HBO cameras from locker room
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, who have both struggled this month, have reportedly banned HBO cameras from their respective locker room for the upcoming week of games.
The Red Wings and Maple Leafs are both currently participating in the third season of HBO's acclaimed series: "24/7: Road to the Winter Classic." The series is intended to be an all access glimpse at life in the National Hockey League, as the title implies.
But during a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Dec. 17th, the Maple Leafs reportedly forbade HBO access to their dressing room in between periods. That same night, during a 5-2 loss against the Ducks, the Red Wings did the same.
"The wide-open access our clubs provide on and off the ice gives a real sense of what it takes to play in the NHL," NHL Chief Operating Officer John Collins said earlier this month. "Red Wings-Maple Leafs will provide no shortage of great stories."
Just a shortage of access relative to past seasons, apparently.
