Dion Phaneuf signs seven-year, $49M deal: Nonis says 'he earned this contract'
With the biggest-scale NHL game on the horizon, the Maple Leafs stole the spotlight by inking their captain Dion Phaneuf to a seven-year, $49-million deal. It's a contract-length that Leafs general manager Dave Nonis says Phaneuf would have gotten "regardless," yet one that earned.
Nonis: "We signed Dion to this deal because he deserved it... He's going to play at this level for seven years and maybe beyond."
