Eugene Melnyk continues quest to prove Cooke intentionally injured Karlsson
Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk was in New York on Monday to meet with NHL brass in order to share the results of a "forensic investigation" meant to determine whether former Pittsburgh Penguins winger Matt Cooke intentionally sliced defenceman Erik Karlsson's Achilles tendon last February.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Melnyk, along with general manager Bryan Murray, met with Gary Bettman, Bill Daly and Brendan Shanahan to share his findings.
Melnyk can't speak publicly about the incident lest he risk receiving a hefty fine from the league, but he's long maintained that Cooke intentionally tried to injure Karlsson on this play in a game on Feb. 14, 2013.
The league decided at the time that the incident did not warrant supplemental discipline, and there's no reason to think anything will change, regardless of the findings in Melnyk's investigation.
