PHOTO: Steve Mason's new goalie mask features zombified depictions of his teammates
Despite the market's reputation as a "goalie graveyard," Flyers Steve Mason has resurrected his career in Philadelphia this season. With all of that undead imagery floating about, it makes sense that the Flyers netminder is such a zombie enthusiast!
Earlier this season Mason's mask featured depictions of famous, Philadelphia based historical figures (as zombies). His new mask is also a collaboration with Philadelphia based artist Franny Drummond; and it goes even further. Mason's new lid imagines what a variety of his teammates would look like were they to die and be infected by some sort of rabies-type zombie virus, or alternatively, reanimated with a voodoo spell.
Here are some images of Mason's new spooky mask courtesy InGoal Magazine and DSP Photo Studio. Here's zombie Claude Giroux and zombie Jakub Voracek (who looks an awful lot like Chris Hemsworth in this rendering, truth be told):
The mask also features zombie Wayne Simmonds and zombie Scott Hartnell (arguably zombie Scott Hartnell could use some more hair):
On the top of the mask is another zombie figure (with no visible number) wearing a Flyers jersey:
Here's the front of the mask:
The mask has its own website where you can see more images. Flyers equipment manager Derek Settlemyer is also zombiefied on the backplate of the mask, which is a nice tribute on Mason's part.
