Nielsen sustained a broken hand after being slashed during Saturday's game against the Avs, NHL.com reports.
Analysis:
Arthur Staple of Newsday adds that while it is possible that Nielsen -- who suffered a non-displaced fracture -- may be able to play on Feb. 27, it seems more likely that Nielsen will miss the Islanders' first week of games upon completion of the current Olympic break.
