Boston Bruins star Bobby Orr becomes the first NHL defenseman to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer.
Orr finishes with 33 goals and 87 assists (120 points) in 76 games.
The Hall of Famer would win another scoring title in 1974-75, amassing 135 points.
1987 - Seventh heaven for The Great One

Speaking of the Art Ross, Wayne Gretzky wins his seventh straight scoring title, finishing the season with 183 points (62 goals, 121 assists).
Gretzky would win three more scoring titles, each of which coming after being dealt to the Los Angeles Kings.
1987 - Iron Man's Dozen

On the same day, Hartford Whalers forward Doug Jarvis completes his 12th season in his 962nd consecutive game.
Jarvis would play two games in the 1987-88 season before retiring with the league's longest streak of consecutive games played.
