Gaborik scores twice as Kings blank Oilers
Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Marian Gaborik scored two goals, rookie Martin Jones made 17 saves and the Los Angeles Kings blanked the Edmonton Oilers, 3-0, at Rexall Place.
Gaborik also picked up an assist on Anze Kopitar's 200th career goal.
"Obviously, we controlled the game for pretty much all 60 minutes," Gaborik remarked. "We played our game up and down and we didn't give them much."
The Kings matched a franchise single-season record with their 46th win.
Los Angeles, which snapped a three-game losing streak, will face San Jose in the first round of the playoffs.
Viktor Fasth stopped 45 shots for the Oilers, including 23 in the third period.
Kopitar reached the milestone 27 seconds into the game off a feed from Justin Williams.
"You can't give a Stanley Cup contender the lead that early," said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. "Our top line, our best line is on the ice and a real easy assignment and it's in our net. It can't happen."
Gaborik made it 2-0 at the nine-minute mark of the first period and lit the lamp a second time at 13:55 of the middle stanza.
Game Notes
Los Angeles swept the four-game season series and has won six straight against Edmonton ... Oilers forward Sam Gagner left the game in the second period with an ankle injury and did not return.
