Alex Ovechkin will play for Russia in World Championships

As the NHL playoffs begin across North America, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is shipping off to Minsk to represent his native Russia at the 2014 IIHF World Championships.

Ovechkin has appeared in 56 World Championship games for Russia dating back to 2004, scoring 27 goals and adding 19 assists and bringing home two gold medals (2008, 2012), one silver medal (2010) and two bronze medals (2005, 2007).
