Bettman estimates 2014-15 NHL salary cap ceiling will be at $69-70 million
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman addressed reporters in Philadelphia on Tuesday, ahead of Game 3 of the opening round Stanley Cup playoff series between the Flyers and the New York Rangers. During his brief availability the NHL Commissioner revealed that expansion isn't close, that there's no update on the sale of the Islanders, and that an opponent to play the Capitals at the 2015 Winter Classic will be announced soon.
Bettman also commented on the projected salary cap ceiling for the 2014-15 season, and the impact that a weak Canadian dollar might have on the maximum amount teams can spend on their roster:
Previous estimates from the league pegged the salary cap ceiling for 2014-15 as falling closer to $71 million, but that was before the Canadian dollar went in the tank.
