GIF: Bruins' Marchand gets kneed, but leaves game nursing other leg

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand sustained an apparent injury during the second period of Tuesday night's Game 3 between the Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings. After a knee-on-knee collision with Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith, Marchand rolled around on the ice at length and appeared to be severely hurt.

He was helped off the ice by teammates and training staff, while Smith received a minor penalty for tripping.

Once it was clear that Smith wasn't going to get hit with a major penalty, however, Marchand returned to the bench and was back on the ice skating like a guy who hadn't just torn both his MCL and ACL in a knee-on-knee collision.

It was a strange moment: Was there some gamesmanship on Marchand's end? Perhaps it was because of the way he fell, but he left the ice nursing his right leg, despite taking a hit to his left leg:

In fact, immediately after being hit, the Bruins pest grabbed the wrong leg:
