Connor McDavid is not eligible for the NHL entry draft until 2015, but he was drafted on Thursday - by a KHL team.

McDavid was selected by Medvescak Zagreb, a Croatia-based franchise that boasts a surprising amount of North Americans on its roster. 22 of the 31 players on last season's roster were from either the United States or Canada, and the coaching staff included Canadians Mark French, Dean Fedorchuk and Donald MacLean.

The selection is a formality, as McDavid will likely remain with the OHL's Erie Otters during his draft year with the goal of playing in the NHL. Still, should the generational talent find himself playing in Europe for whatever reason, Medvescak Zagreb owns his rights.
