Game 3 between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers got off to a rather ugly start.
Rangers forward Derek Stepan initiated a breakout from the defensive zone, and was caught with late hit from Canadiens forward Brandon Prust.
Amazingly, no penalty was called on the play; former senior referee Kerry Fraser offered some context on how late the hit actually was.
That hit by Prust was so late the Ref was following the play up ice. Not a good miss!

Prust later engaged in a fight with Derek Dorsett, and may be hearing from the NHL's department of player safety in regards to supplemental discipline.
Stepan left the game but was able to return later in the first period.
