Federal judge upholds $1.6 million lawsuit against ex-Red Wings forward Kevin Miller
A federal ruling upheld the $1.6 million judgement levied against former Detroit Red Wings forward Kevin Miller for a hit in a Swiss League game that ended the career of Andrew McKim in 2000.
The decision was made in favor of a Swiss company that insured McKim, who was hospitalized for weeks due to a severe concussion before being forced to retire.
McKim had enjoyed a breakout season prior to his injury, collecting 45 points in 44 games with Kloten.
Interestingly enough, the lawsuit may have repercussions for another Michigan-area hockey player in Todd Bertuzzi. The current Red Wings forward, along with the Vancouver Canucks, are being sued for $38 million by former Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore, whose career ended after an incident in 2004.
