Oilers hire Craig Ramsay to replace Kelly Buchberger as assistant coach
The Edmonton Oilers have modified their coaching group, hiring Craig Ramsay as an assistant coach - he served most recently an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers - and transitioning longtime assistant coach Kelly Buchberger into a player personnel role in the front office.
A veteran head coach, Ramsay replaced Peter Horachek when he was promoted in Florida this past fall. The well-traveled bench boss has worked with seven other organizations in his coaching career, including two separate stints with the Panthers. He was reported to be in the running for an assistant coach job with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ramsay will replace long-time Oilers player and assistant Buchberger, who has worked as an assistant with the Oilers for six seasons, and coached some hapless teams through some awfully lean years.
