Report: Maple Leafs 'definitely have interest' in pending UFA Dan Boyle
The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly very interested in former San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle, a pending unrestricted free agent whose exclusive negotiating rights were acquired by the New York Islanders earlier this month. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, that interest may be mutual.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs are high on Dan Boyle's list," Dreger said during an Insider Trading segment on "Sportscentre" Wednesday night. "Dan Boyle wants a two-year deal and the money might be more than the Maple Leafs are willing to pay, but they definitely have interest."
The Islanders, who have already made Boyle a contract offer according to Dreger, are waiting to hear from Boyle's camp about whether or not he intends to negotiate. That decision is expected to come down this week.
If Boyle doesn't sign with the Islanders, general manager Garth Snow will likely shop his rights in an effort to recoup the conditional fifth-round draft pick he traded to San Jose in exchange for Boyle's negotiating rights - as he did with Christian Ehrhoff in the summer of 2011.
