VIDEO: Final Hockey Night in Canada broadcast of the season marred by technical glitch

In the pandemonium that followed Los Angeles Kings defeNseman Alec Martinez's double-overtime winning goal Friday night, the CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast of the Stanley Cup Final cut out. All across Canada, the screen went black.

When the image returned, it was of NBC's broadcast of the Game 5. Except, it was sort of split oddly. 

Later in the broadcast, the image cut out again.

It's a tough way for the long-running, iconic hockey broadcast to end. Hockey Night in Canada started on radio in 1931, and on TV in 1952. It has run uninterrupted since then.

Editorial control of the broadcast will shift to Rogers Sportsnet beginning next season, so this was the last showing of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada as we know it. For the beloved NHL broadcasts on CBC to go out on a technical glitch of this magnitude is sad in the extreme.
