Capitals promote Ross Mahoney to assistant general manager
With their championship window inching shut, the Washington Capitals continued to keep it internal Monday, announcing Ross Mahoney's promotion to assistant general manager.
Mahoney owns 16 years of organizational service, most recently serving as the team's director of amateur scouting. He will assist newly-appointed general manager Brian MacLellan, who was tabbed to replace George McPhee in late May.
MacLellan released the statement regarding the hire via the Capitals' official website.
"Ross is an excellent judge of talent and the success he has enjoyed on the amateur scouting level speaks volumes of his expertise. He is a great asset for our hockey operations staff and someone I greatly respect."
Mahoney has scouting experience at the collegiate, junior and professional levels and coached Canada to a pair of under-17 World Championships.
