Sharks sign Mike Brown to 2-year contract
The San Jose Sharks have re-signed fourth-line forward Mike Brown to a two-year deal, the club announced Tuesday.
Brown, a pending unrestricted free agent, played in 48 regular season games and six postseason contests for San Jose after he was acquired in a midseason trade with the Edmonton Oilers.
A quick skater, and a game fighter, with a reputation as a heavy hitting forward, Brown has never scored more than six goals in an NHL season.
Brown's new two-year pact with the Sharks will pay him $2.4 million, for an average annual salary (or cap-hit) of $1.2 million per David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News. That's a very similar dollar figure and term to the contract signed by Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise earlier on Tuesday (it's virtually identical actually, when you account for an expected discount due to Weise's status as a restricted free agent).
Do Brown and Weise's new contracts set the market for free agent fourth-liners this summer?
