The Florida Panthers appear to have settled on Gerard Gallant to fill their vacant head coaching position, but not necessarily because they feel he is the best man for the job.
Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports the cost of hiring Dan Bylsma "scared off" the Panthers, causing them to fix their gaze in another direction:
Further to @RealKyper tweet, all the speculation is Gerard Gallant in FLA, probably on Monday.

Bylsma, fired by the Penguins, is set to bring in upwards of $4 million from Pittsburgh over the next two years, and is therefore in no rush to take a job at a lesser value.
As such, Bylsma's gain is, well, Gallant's gain as well.
