The Minnesota Wild have reportedly contacted to two-time Stanley Cup champion and unrestricted free agent defenseman Willie Mitchell to discuss a potential homecoming, per Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Mitchell is the odd man out after the cap-pinched Los Angeles Kings decided to fill out their defensive unit by re-signing Matt Greene.
The 37-year-old wore the forest green for parts of five seasons after coming over in a 2001 trade from New Jersey and contributed to Minnesota's run to the conference final in 2003.
Russo adds that Mitchell's wife is from Minnesota, which could undoubtedly factor in his decision.
