The Pittsburgh Penguins are under new management and making a few changes to the franchise. Veteran defenseman Brooks Orpik is expected to hit free agency July 1st.
His six-year, $22.5 million contract signed in 2008 will expire and give way to a younger blue line featuring Simon Despres.
Josh Yohe of triblive explains:
"The organization's decision to go young on the blue line is clear. Defenseman Brooks Orpik, the franchise's longest-tenured player, is not being targeted for a new contract."
