The Colorado Avalanche have reportedly signed former Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla to a 3-year, $16 million contract.
The 36-year-old Iginla had a major bounce back season with the Boston Bruins in 2013-14, filling Nathan Horton's old spot on a line with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. For the 12th consecutive complete season, Iginla managed 30 goals or more, completing the campaign with 61 points in total.
Although the Bruins' second line struggled enormously against the Montreal Canadiens in the postseason, Iginla was productive in the postseason managing five goals and seven points in 12 games.
The aging power forward still has the touch that has made him a surefire future Hall of Famer, but his pace isn't quite where it used to be and he's certainly not driving the bus at even-strength at this point in his career. As a complimentary second line piece, Iginla is still an extremely useful player.
Update: The team has made the deal official.
