The Washington Capitals have elected not to meet the asking price of pending unrestricted free agent center Mikhail Grabovski, who will test the open market according to a report from Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.
Grabovski, a two-way ace who was bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer, is reportedly looking for a long-term contract worth $5 million per season. In 58 games with the Capitals this past season Grabovski scored 13 goals, managed 35 total points, and led all regular Capitals forwards in shot attempt differential.
