Report: Flames' Cammalleri will not re-sign in Calgary, will hit the open market
When the Calgary Flames held onto scoring forward Mike Cammalleri at the 2014 NHL trade deadline, it raised eyebrows around the league. While president Brian Burke's reluctance (Burke was also interim general manager at the time) to move Cammalleri spoke to a moribund market for sellers, it also suggested that perhaps the Flames would look to retain the veteran sniper.
As it turns out, that won't come to pass. The Flames and Cammalleri have not been able to come to terms on a new contract, and the forward will be hitting the open market as an unrestricted free agent at noon on Tuesday reports Sportsnet's John Shannon.
The 32-year-old forward scored 26 goals and added 19 assists in 45 games for the Flames last season. He also led all Calgary Flames forwards in shot-attempt differential, which is pretty impressive considering the quality of the team and the Pacific Division.
Surely Cammalleri, despite his advancing age and lack of size, could be a major boon for an offensively challenges team in the Eastern Conference.
