Physical shutdown defenseman and U.S. Olympian Brooks Orpik has spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's due to hit the open market on Tuesday at noon though, and despite his declining effectiveness, there's plenty of interest in his services.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Washington Capitals, extremely thin along the blue-line, are poised to make a serious run for Orpik's services. The Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers are also expected to make pitches to Orpik.
