The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Tom Gilbert to a two-year contract worth a reported $5.6 million, the club announced on Tuesday.
Gilbert was bought out by the Minnesota Wild last season, but rebuilt his value logging top-pairing minutes alongside Brian Campbell with the Florida Panthers last season. A fast defenseman who excels at puck possession, Gilbert will help offset the loss of recent traded top-four defenseman Josh Gorges.
