Report: Penguins sign Thomas Greiss to 1-year, $1 million contract
Brad Penner / USA Today
The Pittsburgh Penguins, who already had two goaltenders on one-way contracts on the roster in Marc-Andre Fleury and Jeff Zatkoff, have signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a one-year deal worth $1 million, per TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Greiss' body of work in the AHL isn't suggestive of a quality NHL puck stopper, however, his numbers over the past five years in the NHL are spectacular. Among regular goaltenders over the past five years, Greiss' five-on-five save percentage is better than .930. Those are super elite results, albeit over a small sample, for a goaltender carrying a price tag this reasonable.
