The 27-year-old former first round pick (2005) notched four goals and 24 points in 62 games split between the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers in 2013-14.
The ultimate pest, Downie was jettisoned from the Avalanche in 2013 following a reported incident with captain Gabriel Landeskog.
