Stars sign Fiddler: Center took less money to stay in Dallas
Winning is more important than money, according to Vernon Fiddler.
Fiddler, who re-upped with the Dallas Stars to the tune of $2.5-million over two years, left money on the table in order to stay in the Lone Star State.
“Honestly, I had better offers. But I wanted to stay with this team and finish the job,” Fiddler told The Dallas Morning News. “There is a real attraction to playing here and playing to win, and seeing this through. I think this is going to be a really good team, and I want to be a part of that.”
Stars general manager Jim Nill has completely reshaped the franchise since taking the helm in April of 2013, making a huge splash on the first day of NHL free agency with the additions of Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky.
“I think the deals for Spezza and Hemsky make us better, I think just having a year with the new people makes us better,” Fiddler said. “My family loves it here, I love it here, and we decided the best move for all of us is to stay right here.”
