Report: Blackhawks have had 'no such discussions' about trading Johnny Oduya

The Chicago Blackhawks made a great move on July 1 by signing veteran center Brad Richards to a one-year, $2-million contract.

Although it was a great move for their team on the ice, they now need to shed a lot of salary to slide under the cap ceiling of $69 million.

Scott Powers of ESPN reports the name floating around as a possible trade chip was defenseman Johnny Oduya. In his last year of a three-year contract, Oduya is set to make $3.375 million.

Oduya's agent Don Meehan told ESPN, "no such discussions," had taken place and "they like him very much."

General manager Stan Bowman isn't worried about getting under the cap limit, "We have some ideas (on) what we’re going to do... We’ll certainly make it work."

In 77 games played with the Blackhawks last season, Oduya scored 16 points, as well as seven in the team's playoff run lasting 17 contests.
