Max Domi on making the Coyotes: 'I'll do whatever it takes'
Unlike last year, it looks as though Max Domi is destined to crack the Arizona Coyotes lineup when the puck drops for the start of the NHL regular season in October.
Domi was one of the last players cut by the Arizona Coyotes prior to last season. The 12th overall pick in the 2013 draft was deemed close, but not quite ready to play an everyday role with the big club.
"But at the time, we just felt that it was such a big jump for him," coach Dave Tippett told AZCentral.com of Domi's attempt to make the Coyotes last season. "It was better off in the long term of his development to go back to junior and play one more year."
Domi, the son of former NHL pugilist Tie Domi, did what any offensively-gifted player is expected to do when he's sent back to junior: he ripped the league up. The 19-year-old scored 34 goals and 93 points in 61 games, as the London Knights made the OHL playoffs for the 11th straight season.
For his part, Domi isn't interested in returning to London, and is willing to do whatever it takes to stay in the NHL.
"I've got to make the team first, and once that happens, we can go from there," Domi said. "My game, there's a lot of offense, but whatever I'm told to do, I'm going to do it. If Tip wants me playing defense or goal or playing forward, I'll do whatever it takes. I think everyone knows that, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity."
