Blue Jackets re-sign D Tim Erixon to 1-year, $600K
The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the signing of slowly developing 23-year-old defenseman Tim Erixon. The deal is reportedly a one-year, one-way deal worth $600,000 per Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Once considered a top prospect, Erixon has struggled to stick with the Blue Jackets at the NHL level. Though Erixon has appeared in only 51 career NHL games, he's managed 100 points in 132 AHL games - outrageous offensive production for a blue-liner.
The Blue Jackets only have five defenders signed to one-way contracts for next season, with a sixth defender in Ryan Murray (on an entry-level deal still) also likely to play a major role on the team. So the opportunity is there for Erixon to cement his status as an everyday NHL player, particularly if he can continue to develop on the other side of the puck.
