Kings to honor 'Lucky' Luc Robitaille with STAPLES Center statue
The Los Angeles Kings will honor former left wing and current executive Luc Robitaille with a statue in Star Plaza at STAPLES center, the club announced Thursday.
Robitaille, the Kings' all-time leading goal-scorer, appeared in the second most games in franchise history (behind only Dave Taylor) and is second in total points (behind Marcel Dionne). He has also served as the club's President of Business Operations since 2007, and is an alternate governor for the organization.
The Hall of Fame forward will be honored prior to a game between the Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins on March 7, as part of the club's "Legends Night Series." Former Kings coach Barry Melrose and former player Tony Granato will also be honored by the club this upcoming season.
Hopefully, Robitaille's statue features the undersized, gritty forward at the net-front, shoveling in a garbage goal. That's really the way the scrappiest sniper in contemporary hockey history should be remembered.
