Scott Stevens steps down as Devils assistant
New Jersey Devils assistant coach Scott Stevens will not return for a third season on Pete DeBoer's coaching staff, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello announced on Tuesday.
"Scotty Stevens will not be coming back this year. There is nothing to read into," Lamoriello said per Rich Chere of the Ledger. "It's not the organization. It's just a decision he made.
"I'm sure it's not something that will be long term. I'm sure he will be back in coaching, hopefully here some day. It's just a personal thing. Personal or professional. Any way you want to look at it."
That's some classic and piquant Lamoriello doublespeak.
The 50-year-old coach and Hall of Fame defender spent 13 seasons with the Devils as a player, and has been a member of DeBoer's staff since the 2012-13 season.
