Analysis:
Kuemper is a restricted free agent and the Wild are offering a two-way deal while Kuemper wants a one-way deal. It's not clear if Kuemper will begin the season as Minnesota's starting goalie with Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom both under contract and returning from health issues last season. It seems unlikely that Kuemper would sign with a KHL team, but he could begin the season overseas and have an out clause put into his contract where he could return to the Wild. With Harding missing significant time each of the last two seasons due to setbacks to his multiple sclerosis, it would seem likely the Wild would relent and sign Kuemper to a deal that has him paid a NHL salary if he's sent to the minors.
