The National Hockey League could add an estimated $120 million in revenue by selling advertising space on team jerseys, but reportedly aren't interested in setting the trend.
After a recent meeting with league officials, it's estimated teams could generate $4 million each by adding an extra crest - or two - to their jerseys, according to a source of TSN's Rick Westhead.
"Gary (Bettman) and owners like the money, but they don't want to be first out of the box with this in North America," explained Westhead's source. "They'll wait for the NBA or baseball to do it and then be second or third."
Sure, hockey purists will breath a sigh of relief, but since when is the NHL in a position to decline $120 million in potential revenue?
