1992 - Devils name Scott Stevens captain
The New Jersey Devils name heavy-hitter Scott Stevens the fifth captain in franchise history.
The Hall of Fame defenseman holds New Jersey's captaincy for 14 seasons, leading the Devils to three Stanley Cup championships and four finals appearances. He also wins the Conn Smythe trophy as the postseason's most valuable player in 2000.
Stevens patrols the blue line for 22 NHL seasons split between the Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues and Devils before retiring due to post-concussion syndrome.
He finishes with 196 goals and 908 points in 1,635 career games and holds more penalty minutes (2,785) than any player enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
