Report: Canucks place Jacob Markstrom on waivers
Jerome Miron / USA Today
If the Vancouver Canucks hope to carry three goaltenders this season, they'll need Jacob Markstrom to slip through the cracks this weekend.
The Canucks put Markstrom on waivers Friday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Should Markstrom clear, the Canucks will be on the hook for his $1.2-million salary this season and must incur a hefty cap penalty in order to send him to the AHL's Utica Comets.
If that's their recourse, the Canucks will forfeit over $1 million to goaltenders playing elsewhere; they already owe Roberto Luongo $800,000 in retained salary each season until his contract expires in 2022.
