Devils' Gomez scores twice in preseason game; coach says 'tough decisions' to be made
New Jersey Devils tryout Scott Gomez scored a pair of power-play goals during Sunday's 3-1 preseason win over the Philadelphia Flyers, and might be making a case to make the opening-night roster.
At the very least, he appears to be giving head coach Pete DeBoer pause for serious reflection.
DeBoer on whether Gomez has done enough to win a job: “I think we’ve got a lot of tough decisions to make."

Gomez had not suited up for the Devils on home ice since 2007, and received a mixed reception from the New Jersey faithful, beginning with a smattering of boos.
Gomez: "I probably can’t say the words they were saying, but, then again, right away, the fans, like the organization, they want to win."

Gomez may have endeared himself with the performance against the Flyers on Sunday, but nothing is guaranteed after recording 27 points in his last 85 games with the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers.
