Bruins sign Krug, Smith to 1-year contracts worth $1.4M each
The Boston Bruins have agreed to terms with restricted free agents Torey Krug and Reilly Smith, on one-year contracts worth $1.4 million apiece.
The Bruins announced the signings in a statement on Monday, tying off the final loose ends of their offseason. Both 23-year-olds were coming off entry-level deals and were ineligible for arbitration.
Krug is an offensive defenseman coming off an impressive rookie season. He tallied 40 points in 79 games, but his production was aided by favorable deployment. Smith looks like the best piece the Bruins received in the Tyler Seguin trade after notching 20 goals and 51 points last season.
The extra $2.8 million in salary puts Boston over the cap, which the team will need to rectify prior to the beginning of the regular season.
