Report: Jets waive Budaj 1 day after acquiring him from Canadiens
Marc DesRosier / USA Today
The Winnipeg Jets have reportedly placed Peter Budaj on waivers one day after acquiring the goaltender from the Montreal Canadiens.
The move makes little sense considering Sunday's trade. The deal relieved Montreal of Budaj's salary and the only other piece Winnipeg received is a player with five games of NHL experience. Should Budaj clear waivers, nearly $500,000 of his contract will still count against the Jets' salary cap.
